Today (well, yesterday) has brought the first actual rain that we’ve seen in months. MONTHS, PEOPLE. No rain for MONTHS. Well, aside from the freak thunderstorm we had a couple months ago that woke me up from a dead sleep with the loudest clap of thunder I’ve ever heard in my life, thinking that we were about to have a massive earthquake. No seriously, I went from horizontal to vertical in about .02 seconds while screaming “OH MY GOD, THE BIG ONE IS HERE, OH MY GOD” at 7am on a Saturday.
Yeah, my roommates were stoked about that wakeup call.
Anyway, this weather is dismal at best. Outside it’s dark(ish), grey(ish) and more like a steady sprinkle of rain as opposed to a complete torrential downpour, which is what I’ve been hoping for. It’s not really cold even. I’ve been saying it’s like playing “just the tip” with a guy. Testing it out, just for a second, just to see how it feels before you know… committing to the whole thing.
Yes, I sometimes equate rainstorms to sex. If you only saw rain a couple times a year and went through record breaking temps last week like we did – you would do the same. I promise.
Needless to say, it takes pretty much every ounce of self-will in my body to haul myself out of bed in the mornings when it’s like this. When I can get up, I like to sit on the couch all day, curled up in blankets drinking a ton of tea and alternate between reading and watching trashy reality television. This of course, never happens since I do have to work but it’s a nice dream to have.
So, since I can’t do that during the week. I attempt to make mixes. This is a “rainy day mix” which essentially started off as songs that remind me of rain, then transitioned into songs that basically rip your heart out and then morphed into a list of songs that I like to listen to when it rains. Still holding with the fact that some (okay, most) rip my heart out, but that’s just because they’re ohsofreaking good.
I’m hoping I’ll get a chance to listen to them this weekend, in succession, while living my version of a dream-day. Oh, one can hope.
